As I announced a few months ago, Simply Boulder Culinary Sauces discontinued our Zesty Pineapple sauce and replaced it with Pineapple Ginger. At the time of switching over to Pineapple Ginger, we had several hundred bottles of Zesty Pineapple. Since we needed to figure out something to do with the left over bottles, I researched our options. The best option seemed to be donating the left over Zesty Pineapple sauce to Community Food Share, a not for profit organization that serves Boulder and Broomfield counties.
Community Food Share is much more than just being a food bank. Not only do they provide food for homeless shelters, but they also delivery food to the elderly in need, have a mobile food pantry, and they even have a store where people in need can pick up groceries. At the time of donating the Zesty Pineapple, I was told that our donation would most likely be used in their “store.” It’s a really interesting concept. At their warehouse, they have a section that looks like a grocery store complete with many aisles and signs. A few times a week people that qualify can come and “shop” for a cartload of groceries.
I’ve found that Community Food Share is a great place to donate products and I’m not alone. Several large companies make regular donations such as Munson Farms, White Wave Foods (Horizon Organic Dairy), and Whole Foods. If any companies in the Boulder area are looking for a place to donate food to, I highly recommend Community Food Share.
