Local Ingredients

by Seth on March 18, 2009

As most of my readers know, it’s always a good thing to use local food.  It uses less fuel to ship the items and is much fresher.  When doing demos and events people often ask me if Simply Boulder Culinary Sauces uses local ingredients.  The answer is yes.

At Simply Boulder we use local ingredients whenever possible.  Of course it’s not always feasible.  Most ingredients don’t grow in Colorado such as Pineapples, agave plants, or peanuts.  But, a few ingredients are available here.

Basil:  Our organic basil is from Newcastle, Colorado.  Luckily it’s grown in greenhouses, which means it’s available year round.  I’m thrilled that we’re able to get basil from our own state since it’s important that our basil is as fresh as possible for the lemon pesto sauce.

Honey:  The honey we use is a clover variety and is produced throughout Colorado.  I’ve tasted a lot of types of honey and this is one of the best.  If you haven’t tried Colorado honey, I highly suggest it.

Peanuts:  As mentioned, there are no major peanut farms in Colorado.  But, there are peanut farms right next to Colorado in New Mexico.  All of our peanuts for the Coconut peanut sauce come from New Mexico which is a lot closer than the southeast.
